Pollution
Litter and Plastic Pollution
"Litter Pollution is very dangerous for our environment. First, the trash (i.e. plastic, organic waste, the water from the restroom) goes to the ocean. One cause is the people who throw this trash to the street and when it rains, all that trash goes to the ocean. Second, the animals in the ocean (fish) come and eat little pieces of plastic, and also the big fishes eats trash. Because of that, the fishes die. Third, countries, states, and cities pay a lot of money to take the trash from the beaches. Even though there is so much trash, they pay bigs amounts of money because of that. Plastic pollution is really bad for our community. Toxic chemicals, metals and oils are some causes of water pollution that the humans cause. Water pollution occurs when human activity causes contamination. Industrial facilities discharge pollutants that include many toxic chemicals." "Water pollution is when waste and chemicals cause water pollution in the water. For example, water pollution is in rivers, oceans, and lakes when the people throw a lot of trash in the river. That's why the water pollution is on the Earth harming the food chain: Toxins within water can harm aquatic animals living in the water like dolphins and sharks, etc. The decreased oxygen causes harm to other organisms living in the water. That's why water pollution is bad for the health of the water and for the animals that live in the water, forest, and in the soil, too. We can prevent water pollution by recycling and not littering it into the rivers." Written by Joseth Fabiola D.

Nutrient Pollution
"Water pollution is when bodies of water like lakes, rivers, or oceans are contaminated by nutrient pollutants. Water pollution is the contamination of the water caused in part by humans. Water pollution contains chemicals like fertilizer that goes into the water when it rains. Water pollution affects our community because it contains many pathogens like bacteria, viruses, chemicals, and other things, like litter.
"Organic and Industrial farmers can cause water pollution. Organic water pollution can come from food processing waste. Also, inorganic pollution can be caused by fertilizers and other chemicals. Industrial farmers can help by using the right amount of fertilizer every year. People can also control the waste of animals in their farms and use it for farming. Nitrogen pollution causes algal blooms. Also, dead zones occur when nutrient pollution goes to a body of water. Nutrient pollution is caused by runoff of soil. When it rains fertilizer from farms goes to the rivers. After that, many nutrients go to the water and cause algal bloom. Algae grows fast, so when it grows, it blocks the sun and aquatic plants can't conduct photosynthesis. When plants don't conduct photosynthesis they cannot make oxygen, so many animals die because bacteria decomposing the algal bloom use all the oxygen in the water, so it cause dead zones. Also, soil erosion that is carried into bodies of water by surface runoff results in sediment pollution such as silt. When there is sediment floating in the water, it can interfere with the penetration of the sunlight for the purposes of photosynthesis. If farmers use the proper amount of fertilizer every year, it can help to reduce nutrient pollution. Also, trees are very helpful because they can absorb nutrients before they go into the water.
"What else causes water pollution? Humans waste and all the sewage that belongs to households, factories and commercial buildings go to the sea, Sewage can be more contaminated when people put chemicals and other substances down the toilet. DO NOT flush pills, liquid or powder medications or drugs down the toilet. Minimize the use of pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers. DO NOT dispose of these chemicals, motor oil, or other automotive fluids into the sanitary sewer or storm sewer systems. Both of them end at the river."

Pesticide Pollution
"Farmers use a lot of types of pesticide and fertilizer on the land to get more crops and when it rains the water takes the pesticide from the land to the rivers, then the water gets contaminated. Pesticide pollution contaminates lands and environments by causing problems to human health. People can get sick or get a lot of types of cancer. For this problem, there is a solution. Farmes can use less fertilizer or pesticides so people will not get sick or get cancer or die early." Written by Gabriela C.

Invasive Species
"Invasive species are species that are from another place than where they belong. They can be bad because they damaged the ecosystem of the place they invade. Invasive species are bad for our community because they hurt native plants, even kill them. They are not native for the ecosystem or it is a harmful species that kill or make plants to not grow. So we need to protect our native plants." Written by Danny M. and Gloria P.N.
"Invasive species are all of the nonnative species that considerably change or disturb the ecosystem they invade, namely all of the species that come from a different environment and try to adapt to the new ecosystem they have migrated to. Invasive species can be any plants, animals, microbes and other living things that are carried or moved to a new environment. They can move by their own or by the humans. Once the invasive species have gotten into the new environment, they can fight against the native species for the food, water, place to live, etc. Because the invasive species are taking all of the resources, the native species are decreasing." English Ivy
"English ivy is an invasive species that comes from England. It grows all the way up the trees killing all of them. The ivy seeds come out from the birds' poop when they eat seeds and then digest them. also, it is spread because of the wind." Written by Ricardo C.and Alazar A.

Conservation, Restoration, and Earth Day
Earth Day
"Earth Day is like cleaning the streets or planting trees to keep the Earth clean and healthy for people.Teams learn to care for our environment, clean, and collect garbage waste. We learned to plant the plants and as conscientious people to take care of our environment every day without destroying it." Written by Gerson P.
